Here are five storylines to watch on Tuesday, when Orlando City SC takes on Cavalry FC for the second leg of Round One of the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Keeping it Clean
Orlando City enters the second leg of its Concacaf Champions Cup matchup against Cavalry FC off the back of two consecutive clean sheets to start its 2024 campaign. The Lions first shutout Cavalry at Starlight Stadium in the first leg, taking the result via a 3-0 scoreline, before keeping CF Montréal off the board in a 0-0 draw over the weekend, with goalkeeper Pedro Gallese making nine total saves across the two games.
Halftime
Entering the second leg, the Lions currently lead the Round One matchup against Cavalry 3-0 on aggregate, setting themselves up to be in good position to advance to the Round of 16. Forwards Duncan McGuire and Facundo Torres struck for City last week at Starlight Stadium, with Torres bagging a brace on the night. City’s three goals also currently put the Club in the lead for the away goals tiebreaker.
Big Cat Clash
The winner of Tuesday night’s Concacaf Champions Cup clash between City and Cavalry will advance to face Liga MX’s Tigres UANL in the Round of 16. If City advances it would set up a rematch from last year’s tournament between the Lions and Tigres. The two teams drew both legs 0-0 and 1-1 respectively with Tigres only advancing past the Lions via the away goals rule.
Home Debuts
Saturday’s MLS season opener against CF Montréal served as a debut night for a couple of the Lions’ new players. Midfielder Nico Lodeiro made his Orlando home debut on the night, while defender David Brekalo made his first-ever appearance for the Lions. Brekalo led the side in interceptions (4), clearances (2), total duels (10) and duels won (6) on the night.
Available for Selection
After joining Orlando two weeks ago, Designated Player Luis Muriel will be available for selection for the first time this season after his paperwork cleared. The Colombian striker joined the Lions on a three-year contract through 2026 from Atalanta BC of Italy’s Serie A.
