Here are five storylines to watch on Wednesday as the Lions take on Nashville SC on the road:
Summer of Facu Pt. 3
Orlando City’s Cuervo continued his summer tear on Saturday night, scoring two more goals in the match. Facundo Torres has added six tallies and provided three helpers in his last six appearances. With two strikes finding the back of the net, Torres recorded his 49th and 50th all-time goal contributions, taking him into second place in that category all-time and just one contribution shy of former Lions captain Nani (51) for the most in Club history. The Uruguayan’s two tallies also served as his 12th multi-goal contribution game, extending his own Club record.
Running With Ramiro
Orlando City’s Ramiro Enrique has now found the back of the net twice in as many games, scoring the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 3-1 win over the New England Revolution. The Argentine striker also scored in the Club’s 5-0 win over D.C. United the weekend prior, with both of his recent strikes coming off corner kick opportunities with a teammate heading the ball onto him. Enrique’s goals were his sixth and seventh all-time across all competitions since arriving in the City Beautiful ahead of the 2023 campaign.
Flying Even Higher
Orlando City’s attack has reached historic heights in the last few weeks, with the Lions’ offense scoring 18 goals in their last six matches played. That tally stands as the most goals the Club has ever scored in a six-match span in its MLS history. With two goals against a typically stout Nashville defense on Wednesday night, Orlando City would set another new Club record for most goals scored in a seven-game span in Club history. In this six-match span, the Lions hold a 4-1-1 record with multiple goals scored in all six of those contests.
Country Lions
After going eight straight matches without a win against Nashville SC over a three-year stretch, Orlando City finally established itself as the leader in this burgeoning southeastern rivalry last season. The Lions picked up a 1-0 win over Nashville at the end of the 2023 regular season before sweeping the Coyotes out of the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs with multiple 1-0 shutout wins. The Lions have also been particularly strong in matches played in Tennessee, losing just once in six trips to the state and never in the regular season.
Orlando’s Omaha Olympian
Orlando City Forward Duncan McGuire, who was officially named to the U.S. roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the Lions’ first-ever Olympian and the United States are just under 10 days away from kicking off their Olympic tournament run. The United States has qualified for its first Olympic games in soccer since the Beijing 2008 games and will open Group Stage action against hosts France on July 24.
Milestone Tracker:
- Duncan McGuire is one goal away from tying Dom Dwyer (24) for fifth on Orlando City’s all-time scoring list and two goals away from tying Kaká (25) for fourth
- Facundo Torres (22) is one assists away from passing Kaká (22) for fourth on the Club’s all-time assist chart and two assists away from tying Chris Mueller (24) for third
- Torres also sits just six goals away from the all-time Club record set by Cyle Larin (44) across all competitions
