ORLANDO, Fla. (March 10, 2017) – 7-Eleven®, the Official Convenience Store of Orlando City SC, has continued its support of the Orlando City Youth Soccer (OCYS) program by collecting $2,500 throughout the 2016 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
The funds were raised through in-store activations and donations and will be used to sport the OCYS scholarship program, which provides financial resources to budding youth soccer players. The scholarship can cover the cost of registration, equipment, jerseys and more.
“We want to thank 7-Eleven and its Franchisees, not only for their support of the Lions’, but for their continued investment in the youth players in our community,” OCYS General Manager Laura Halfpenny said. “The scholarship program is an important resource for many of our players, who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to play, and we would be unable to offer it without the assistance of companies like 7-Eleven.”
Throughout the 2016 season, Orlando 7-Eleven treated kids 12 and under to a free purple Slurpee when they wore their youth soccer jersey to a participating store. 7-Eleven also offered fans “Plugged In” playlists (featuring gameday musical selections provided by Lions’ players), hosted player appearances and supported Magnet Mondays with the Kickin’ Cruiser.
The OCYS scholarship recipient will be presented the award at a future Orlando City match.
