Andrea Pirlo Makes MLS Debut
The rematch between Orlando City and NYCFC was almost as historic as the first expansion club contest, as Italian legend Andrea Pirlo made his MLS debut just months after starting in the UEFA Champions League Final with Juventus. Pirlo played 33 minutes in NYC’s thrilling win over visiting Orlando.
Giovinco’s Brilliant Volley Triggers TFC Comeback
Three minutes after tumbling into a three-goal deficit, Sebastian Giovinco got the comeback started against Crew SC. From 20 yards away, Collen Warner lobbed the ball to Giovinco, who cleanly struck it into the far corner. Just five minutes later, Warner cut Columbus’ lead to one before Jozy Altidore’s 89th minute PK secured a point for Toronto.
Didier Drogba Signing with Montreal Impact
Cote d’Ivoire legend Didier Drogba is heading to Montreal, first reported ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle and then later confirmed from the team. The long-time Chelsea man has scored 165 goals for the Blues during his nine seasons there. Per the report, “the prospect of playing in a French-speaking city” lured Drogba to Montreal.

Mexico Defeat Jamaica to Capture Gold Cup
Mexico beat Jamaica by a score of 3-1 on Sunday to capture their seventh CONCACAF Gold Cup. Andrés Guardado scored a fantastic volley in the 31st minute and El Tri would go on to score two more to defeat surprise finalists Jamaica. Mexico will face the United States in a Confederations Cup playoff in Pasadena on October 9.

MLS All-Star Game This Wednesday at 7:00pm
The MLS All-Stars, led by Orlando City captain Kaká, will take on English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, home of the Colorado Rapids. The game will be televised on FOX Sports 1 and UniMás. The game is on Wednesday, but the festivities build up on Monday and Tuesday with a free concert and the Chipotle Homegrown Game against Club América’s U-20s.
