Around MLS: Columbus and Portland Prevail, Will Meet in MLS Cup Final

Columbus Advance to Finals In Thrilling Fashion
In an Eastern Conference Final to remember, Columbus went into Harrison, NJ and was able to hang losing 1-0 to the Red Bulls, advancing on aggregate goals by a score of 2-1. They will move on to this Sunday’s MLS Cup Final. In the 93rd minute, Anatole Bertrand Abang scored on a header assisted by Lloyd Sam to give the Red Bulls the 1-0 lead going into added time. Only two minutes later, Bradley Wright-Phillips was able to make contact on a header for the Red Bulls, but the ball hit the post and bounced out securing Columbus’ trip to the final.

Portland Hold of Late Charge, Defeat FC Dallas
In an exciting game in Frisco, TX, Fanendo Adi and Lucas Melano for the Timbers matched goals from Ryan Hollingshead and Blas Perez for FC Dallas leaving the score 2-2. After defeating Dallas 3-0 at home last weekend, Portland advanced on aggregate by the final score of 5-2 to move on to the MLS Cup final against Columbus. The Timbers will travel to MAPFRE stadium in Columbus this Sunday at 4:00pm to face the Crew in one of the rowdiest environments in American soccer. The winner will be crowned MLS Cup champions and receive a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League.
