Expansion Bids
A total of 12 ownership groups from 12 cities placed bids before Tuesday’s deadline to join MLS. MLS wants to add four more teams in the coming years, bringing the total number of teams to 28. Raleigh, Charlotte, Tampa, Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Nashville, San Antonio, Phoenix, Sacramento, and San Diego were the cities that placed their bids. The strong reaction from cities across the country shows the strength of the MLS and the significant growth of the league in the last decade.
