Jozy Altidore Named USMNT Player of the Year
Jozy Altidore has been named U.S Soccerās Male Player of the Year after a stunning 2016 campaign with both club and country. Altidore made 23 appearances and scored 10 goals with Toronto FC in the 2016 regular season, and six appearances with five goals in the postseason. Altidore helped the team reach their first MLS Cup, which they lost to the Seattle Sounders. In addition, Altidore made ten appearances for the U.S Menās National Team and scored six goals, including four in World Cup Qualifiers. Altidore won this honor for the second time in his career, following his recognition in 2013.
Seattle Sounders Celebrate MLS Cup Victory
The Seattle Sounders are celebrating their MLS Cup victory in style, with a parade for the champions through downtown Seattle on Tuesday. The parade will end with a rally at the foot of the Space Needle, not far from where the Sounders started playing at Memorial Stadium in 1974 during their North American Soccer League days. The Sounders won their first MLS Cup on Saturday night, after making the playoffs every year since joining MLS in 2009.
LA Galaxy Unveil New Head Coach
The LA Galaxy have announced that Curt Onalfo will be the clubās new Head Coach following the departure of Bruce Arena at the end of the 2016 season. Onalfo has been with the club since 2011 and has been the head coach of LA Galaxy II (the organizationās USL squad) since 2014. Onalfo previously coached Sporting Kansas City from 2007-2009 and D.C United for part of 2010.
