Stephen Gerrard “Surprised” by quality of play in MLS
In an interview with MLSSoccer.com, LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has stated his impressions of the level of play in Major League Soccer. “A lot better than I thought. It surprised me.” Gerrard said before the Galaxy defeated NYCFC 5-1 this past Sunday. “I think the level is very good. The level’s a lot stronger than what people’s opinions’ suggested before I came.” This comes as a very nice applause from one of England’s most legendary players.

Didier Drogba makes debut; Montreal defeated by Philadelphia
The Côte d'Ivoire striker made his long-awaited debut in the 59th minute against the Philadelphia Union this past Saturday. The superb striker didn’t have much of an impact in his first match registering only one shot. Montreal would be defeated by the Union after a Sebastien Le Toux goal in the 78th minute. Drogba and the Impact will take the field again on Wednesday night as they face the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second leg of the Canadian Championship.

Former MLS Coach Tim Hankinson will return to the MLS on Tuesday night
Former Colorado Rapids and Tampa Bay Mutiny head coach, Tim Hankinson, will return to MLS waters on Tuesday night. This time around, Hankinson will be coaching the Jamaican side Montego Bay United as they roll into Washington D.C. looking for an upset in a CONCACAF Champions League matchup against D.C. United. This is a preseason matchup for Montego Bay, who do not start their regular season until September 6th.

Seattle travels to Honduras to take on Olimpia in CCL play
The Seattle Sounders will take a break from playing on American soil as they travel to Tegucigalpa, Honduras to take on CD Olimpia in a CONCACAF Champions League match. This is the second time in the past two weeks that Seattle has faced Olimpia, defeating the Honduran side 2-1with a crazy finish in the final minutes on August 19.
