NYCFC Pulls off Epic Comeback With 10 Men
The Chicago Fire were in firm control at Yankee Stadium on Friday, taking a 2-0 lead on Jeff Larentowicz conversion from the penalty spot after RJ Allen was given a straight red for challenge on David Accam. NYC struggled with their tactical disadvantage but Mehdi Ballouchy’s goal in the waning seconds of the half offered a shot of hope. Then in the ninety-first minute, Khiry Shelton scored on a beautiful ball from David Villa to salvage a much-needed point.
Martins-less Sounders Blast Whitecaps
Chad Barrett’s two first half goals were all Seattle needed to snag three points from their Canadian rivals. Vancouver was looking to take advantage of Obafemi Martins’ absence from the lineup, but it was Seattle who took advantage of lapses of concentration by the Whitecaps back line. The Sounders’ second goal came after twenty-five consecutive passes, the most on a single scoring play this season.
Devon Sandoval Floats a Golazo, but RSL Slammed by Impact
One of the prettiest goals of the season wasn’t nearly enough for Real Salt Lake in Montreal, who fell in decisive fashion in Montréal. With Luis Gil’s dribble into the edge of the area halted by a sliding Laurent Ciman, Devon Sandoval beautifully curved the ball up and over Evan Bush to get Salt Lake on the board. Montréal would claim the three points, though, in a 4-1 final.
Michael Bradley Dances Through Revolution for the Goal
With his team in need of a spark, US Men’s National Team star Michael Bradley took matters into his own hands – er, feet – when he weaved through four defenders to slip his strike past Bobby Shuttleworth to salvage a point on the road. The goal was nominated for MLS Goal of the Week.
Pfeffer Stuns DC United With Stoppage Time Strike
No team in MLS needed a win more than the Philadelphia Union, and Zach Pfeffer was there to make it happen. The Philly native waited until the ninety-third minute to become the hometown hero, but better late than never; he converted Fabinho’s service into the box to steal tree points from the Black and Red.
