NYCFC and Toronto FC Play Thrilling 4-4 Draw


Over 27,000 fans at Yankee Stadium were treated to a goal-fest on Sunday. NYCFC forward David Villa scored two, but it was Sebastian Giovinco who stole the show. In the span of just nine minutes, Giovinco took his team from a two-goal deficit to a one-goal lead just before the half. Referee Ted Unkel awarded four penalty kicks, though only two were converted.


Guatemala Ties Mexico In Gold Cup
In one of the more exciting 0-0 draws you’ll see, Guatemala hung on to tie heavily favored Mexico to secure a point in Group C of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Mexico completely dominated possession, holding the ball for over 80% of the contest, and outshot Los Chapines 19-3. In the 74th minute, Guatemala captain José Contreras earned a yellow for a dangerous challenge. Just two minutes later, Contreras received a second yellow and put his team down a man for the final 15 minutes of the contest.

Sports Illustrated to Issue 24 Commemorative Covers for USWNT World Cup Title
Each USWNT player and coach Jill Ellis will be featured in a special-edition Sports Illustrated magazine commemorating their third World Cup title. It marks the highest number of covers for a single edition in SI’s 61-year history. The magazines will be randomly distributed nationwide and specific covers can be ordered.

Steven Gerrard Makes LA Galaxy Debut
In LA’s international friendly against Club América, Liverpool legend and new signing Steven Gerrard made his Galaxy debut. Gerrard played the first half of the Galaxy’s 2-1 win on Saturday, and head coach Bruce Arena said it might take Gerrard some time to return to full match-fitness.
