Portland defeats FC Dallas 3-1 in first leg of Western Conference Championship
The Portland Timbers defeated FC Dallas 3-1 on Sunday night in the first leg of the Western Conference Championship. The Timbers came out with a high octane offense which gave Liam Ridgewell, Dairon Asprilla, and Nat Borchers opportunities to score. Dallas put one on the board with a 62nd minute strike by Diego Valeri, giving Dallas an important road goal. The second leg will be next Sunday at FC Dallas. Portland will move on to the MLS Cup final if they avoid a 2-0 defeat, or a loss by three or more goals if they can find a road goal.
Columbus defeats New York Red Bulls 2-0 in first leg of Eastern Conference Championship
Kei Kamara continued his strong season by scoring his 25th goal across all competition in the 2-0 victory over the Red Bulls. Justin Meram also scored in front of the packed house at MAPFRE Stadium giving Columbus a 2-0 lead going into the second leg next Sunday. If Columbus can score a goal on the road, this weekend, their chances of advancing will increase drastically.
Ten Cities announced as hosts of the 2016 Copa America Centenario Tournament.
Last Week, CONCACAF confirmed the locations of the ten sites that will play host to the Copa America tournament that will take place in the United States in the summer of 2016. The Orlando Citrus Bowl (Orlando), CenturyLink Field (Seattle), Levi’s Stadium (Santa Clara, CA), Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA), University of Phoenix Stadium (Glendale, AZ), NRG Stadium (Houston), MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ), Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, MA), Soldier Field (Chicago), Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia). These ten stadiums will play host to the group stage and knockout rounds with the final to be played at Metlife Stadium.
