New Father Scores Game Winner
On Father’s Day weekend, Toronto FC’s Drew Moor scored a game-winning header in the 76th minute to down the LA Galaxy in his first league match back since the birth of his son. Moor celebrated the victory with his son on the field.
Stars Align for NYCFC
Frank Lampard scored in his first start of the 2016 season in New York City FC’s 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Union. David Villa and Andrea Pirlo – NYCFC’s other two designated players alongside Lampard – the team’s two other goals as the stars came out to play in Yankee Stadium.
Sporting KC Gets Lucky
Video replays clearly showed that an errant back pass from Sporting KC’s Lawrence Olum crossed the goal line in the 15th minute before keeper Tim Melia cleared it with a sliding kick. The match, which was scoreless at the time, was won by SKC over FC Dallas by a score of 2-0. Had the own goal been called, however, the momentum may have swung in Dallas’ favor.
Red Bulls Go Streaking
The New York Red Bulls have rattled off four consecutive wins, but more impressively, all three victories have been shutouts. In fact, the Red Bulls haven’t allowed an MLS goal in over 400 minutes of play, and their clean sheet steak has propelled the team to second place in the Eastern Conference standings.
