The Mexican Women's National Team is currently ranked 35th in the FIFA World Rankings following its undefeated year in 2023. Mexico’s Head Coach Pedro Lopez took the reins in the Fall of 2022, focusing on reaching the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Under Lopez, the national team secured the 2023 Women’s Revelations Cup tournament championship, qualifying for the Concacaf W Gold Cup and the Gold Medal at the 2023 Pan American Games after defeating the host country Chile this past November.
Starting later this month, the Mexican Women’s National Team will participate in the inaugural Concacaf W Gold Cup. Among the notable players on the list are some of the top scorers in the LIGA MX Femenil such as Tigres forward Stephany Mayor, Kiana Palacios and Alicia Cervantes, from Club América and Club Deportivo Guadalajara, respectively.
April 6 MexTour W opponent, Colombia, is currently ranked 23rd in the FIFA World Rankings. In 2023, the South American side participated in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, their third ever, reaching the quarter-finals, where they lost to England 2-1. Colombia will also participate in the inaugural Concacaf W Gold Cup in the United States, one of four invited nations from Conmebol. This summer, they will participate in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, as they secured their spot by participating as a semi-finalist in the 2022 Copa America Femenina. Las Cafeteras are Captained by Daniela Montoya, midfielder with Atletico Nacional, and top players include goal scorer forward Catalina Usme from Mexico’s Pachuca and Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Leicy Santos. Colombia last faced Mexico in February 2023 during the Women’s Revelations Cup championship match with a 1-1 result.
