New Jersey native and current Gotham striker Carli Lloyd has announced her retirement from professional soccer at the end of this NWSL season. Gotham Head Coach Freya Coombe will coach her last game at the helm of the tri-state side against the Pride as she embarks on a new opportunity to become the head coach of Angel City in California beginning next season.

Gotham played in a midweek matchup against the Portland Thorns this past Wednesday. Down two goals at the half, Carli Lloyd was able to pull one back in the 79th minute, but the comeback eventually fell short for Gotham. The loss served as the second in a row for the New Jersey-based side, now entering Sunday’s matchup against the Pride winless in their last five matches.

In August 2017 the Orlando Pride recorded their largest ever victory over any opponent in the NWSL, when the Club defeated Gotham FC, then Sky Blue, by a score of 5-0. Alex Morgan and Marta accounted for four of those goals with two apiece and former midfielder Dani Weatherholt accounted for the fifth. This match served as the only time two Pride players have scored multiple goals in a single game.
