Racing Louisville recently terminated head coach Christy Holly’s contract, announcing the change a couple of weeks ago. Holly’s position was filled by youth academy coach Mario Sanchez. Sanchez will lead the team until a permanent hire is made. In addition, Louisville traded U.S. WNT forward Christen Press’ rights to Angel City in return for a first round draft pick in 2022, protection from the upcoming expansion draft and allocation money.

Racing Louisville currently has a record of 4-8-5 and an away record of 1-5-2. Louisville is coming off of a 1-1 draw against OL Reign at home this past Saturday. Nadia Nadim opened the scoring early, but the Reign were able to pull one back to secure the draw. Louisville is winless through the team’s last five matches, with their last victory coming on Aug. 8 when the team defeated Kansas City 3-1.

Nadim, who was a midseason signing for Racing, has recorded three goals and an assist in the last five games for Louisville. Savannah McCaskill leads the team in assists with three on the season and Ebony Salmon leads the team in goals with five. 

Head-to-Head

Racing Louisville traveled to downtown Orlando earlier this season for the first-ever regular season meeting between Louisville and the Pride. Louisville opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Ebony Salmon found the back of the net. After 90 minutes it appeared the visitors would claim all three points, but Sydney Leroux equalized in the 94th minute with the then-latest goal in Club history, securing the draw.

Orlando and Louisville were both represented in the NWSL Team of the Month for August. Defender Ali Krieger played every minute of action for the Pride in August, and recorded an assist in Orlando’s victory over Chicago. Nadia Nadim also appeared in August’s Best XI after contributing two goals and an assist for Louisville.
