The Washington Spirit recently named Mark Krikorian its President of Soccer Operations and General Manager. Krikorian will oversee all aspects of soccer operations for the Spirit, further developing a strong roster which, this year, includes seven players called up to the U.S. Women’s National Team. The former Florida State University’s women’s head coach brings over three decades of collegiate, international, and professional women’s soccer leadership experience.

Recent Form

The Spirit currently hold a 1-5-6 record and have lost their last two games in a row. The club’s lone victory came in their regular season opener against the OL Reign. Washington lost its most recent matchup against the Kansas City Current. The Spirit earned a penalty kick in the dying moments of the match to try and earn an equalizer, but it was saved by Current goalkeeper Adrianna Franch. The Spirit are currently playing shorthanded as they have seven USWNT players away on international duty.

Three of Washington’s top goal-scorers will be out this weekend on international duty, with Ashley Hatch, Trinity Rodman and Ashley Sanchez leading the side this campaign. Hatch sits atop the side with four, while Rodman and Sanchez have each net two for the Spirit in 2022. 

Head-to-Head

Sunday will serve as the second and final matchup between the two sides during the regular season with the teams playing to a 2-2 draw at Exploria Stadium back on May 27. The Spirit went up 2-0 with goals from Trinity Rodman in the 19th minute and Ashley Hatch in the 66nd, respectively. The Pride answered back, however, scoring twice in second-half stoppage time to come back and split the points. Mikayla Cluff and Darian Jenkins both found the back of the net for the Pride.
