The U-16 and U-18 USSDA teams returned to action this past weekend, with both sides picking up three points against South Carolina Battery Academy, continuing their strong start to the season. The U-14s, who opened the campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Boca United, will return to league play on Sunday, Oct. 4.
After a slow start to the game, the U-16s went down to South Carolina in the first half, setting the stage for a massive comeback performance. In the second 45, the Lions climbed their way back into the match, scoring twice as they claimed a resilient 2-1 victory. The win marked the team’s third in four games played.
“The U-16s performed well overall in the game. In the first half, we were not able to connect our passes as well as the group wanted,” said USSDA head coach Darren Powell. “However, the group showed good character in the second half to come back from a goal down and in the process played some good attacking soccer.”
The U-18s picked up their second consecutive win in as many games on Sunday, defeating South Carolina 4-1 at Seminole Soccer Complex after notching two goals early in the match. City’s goals were scored by Nathaniel Adamolekun, Raul Aguilera, Juan Jose Hernandez and Cormac Begley.
“The team started the game well and got two good goals against a well-organized team,” added Powell. “We had long spells of possession in the game which is a good sign for this group. We must keep looking to turn our possession into more chance on goal. This will be a focus throughout the coming weeks.”
