Orlando City Academy Teams Sweep Third Week Of League Play

Gen Adidas Story

In the third week of league play, all three Orlando City U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams claimed victories against Boca United Football Club at Seminole Soccer Complex.

The U-14s, who were featuring in their first game of the season, opened the new campaign with a strong 3-0 win over Boca, recording the team’s first clean-sheet of the season. Coached by Greg Brick, Daniel Miranda, Julian Kennedy and Bruno Furtado all found the back of the net to lead the young Lions to a comprehensive victory.

“This was the team’s first game of the season, and for a first outing there were many positive signs,” said Pro Academy coach Darren Powell. “We look forward to seeing this group progress throughout the year.”

The U-16s also produced three goals against Boca United, marking their second win in three games played so far this season – bouncing back from a 2-0 defeat to Concorde Fire in week two to win 3-1.

“This game was well played by both teams. We were pleased with the commitment both sides of the ball of this group,” added Powell. “The third goal showed this with tracking back to win the ball then some composure shown by several players in the build up to the finish. We will continue to push this week for a complete 80 minute performance.”

The oldest age group in City’s Development Academy program produced an astonishing eight goal performance in their contest against Boca. Three players recorded a brace in the win for Orlando City, as Cormac Begley, Nathaniel Adamolekun and David Loera all found the back of the twice. Jack McCloskey and Raul Aguilera added one goal apiece.

“The team got off to a fast start and improved with our attacking play from the previous week,” said Powell. “The attitude and application of players from the week of practice was good from an attacking perspective but our team defending needs to be a lot better in future games.”
