CHARLESTON, S.C. (July 29, 2017) – In its first match in 16 days, Orlando City B (5-6-8, 23 points) recorded a clean sheet and drew Eastern Conference leader Charleston Battery (10-4-7, 37 points), 0-0, Saturday at MUSC Health Stadium.
“There were lots of positives tonight. It was a good performance. We possessed the ball really well. The passing and movement at times was excellent, it just lacked a little bit of care in the final third and just missed that killer instinct. We had some good opportunities on goal, we just couldn’t finish them off,” OCB Head Coach Anthony Pulis said. “The fact that we held probably the most dangerous attack in the USL and got a shutout is really pleasing. And the fact that we’re disappointed walking away with a 0-0 draw against the team that’s at the top of the league shows where we’re at at the moment. Lots of positives.”
With a backline comprised by First Team defender Seb Hines, Timbó, Zach Ellis-Hayden and Austin Martz, OCB showcased a strong defensive performance to secure its sixth clean sheet of the season and record a point on the road. It was OCB’s third clean sheet in the last five games.
City controlled 54.9% of the possession and aimed to open the score with numerous shots from distance from Martz, and midfielders Danny Deakin and Tony Rocha, as well as darting runs from First Team striker Hadji Barry, but was unable to break the deadlock.
The draw extends the Lions' unbeaten streak to five games.
In addition to Hines, Rocha and Barry, the Lions’ lineup included First Team goalkeeper Earl Edwards, Jr. Defender Conor Donovan was also a part of the 18-man roster.
Orlando City B returns home on Wednesday, Aug. 2, to face the Harrisburg City Islanders at the Orlando City Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET.
