ORLANDO, Fla. (July 15, 2016) – Following Wednesday’s match in New York, Orlando City SC (4-5-9, 21 points) continues its three-game road trip when it visits the Vancouver Whitecaps (8-8-4, 28 points) on Saturday, July 16. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. ET at BC Place.
The match will be locally televised on WRDQ TV27 as well as transmitted on Real Radio 104.1 FM in English and on La Grande 1030 AM in Spanish.
“It will be a hostile atmosphere [tomorrow] and sometimes that brings the group together. When you take all the other stuff away, it’s 11 versus 11, and each guy needs to be better than the guy they are playing against,” interim head coach Bobby Murphy said. “[Vancouver] likes to counter, they like to use their speed and I think we need to make sure that we limit the space in behind us.”
Saturday’s contest will be Lions’ first visit to BC Place and the second-ever encounter between both sides. In 2015, despite dominating play and controlling the possession and the attacking chances, the Lions fell short when Octavio Rivero broke the scoreless tie in stoppage time.
City enters the fixture looking to recover from Wednesday’s 2-0 loss at the New York Red Bulls. Canadian striker Cyle Larin leads the Lions with eight goals, while midfielder Kevin Molino has six goals and five assists.
Vancouver is coming off a 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake. Pedro Morales leads the Canadian side with six goals and five assists, while Christian Bolaños and Kekutah Manneh have five goals each.
The contest will feature the face-off between two of the league’s best goalkeepers. Vancouver’s David Ousted leads MLS with 75 saves while Bendik is tied for fourth with 65 stops.
City finish the road trip on Saturday, July 23, when they visit Columbus Crew SC at MAPFRE Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. E.T. The Lions return to Camping World Stadium on Sunday, July 31, when they host the New England Revolution. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
