ORLANDO, Fla. (June 11, 2024) – Orlando City defender David Brekalo has been named to Slovenia’s final roster for the UEFA EURO 2024, it was recently announced.
The Ljubljana, Slovenia, native has made 13 starts in 15 appearances for Orlando City, scoring one goal across all competitions in 2024 after joining the Lions this offseason via a transfer from Norwegian side Viking FK. The center back has made 13 total appearances for the Slovenian national team, including five in the nation’s qualification process for this tournament, scoring his first goal at the international level in a UEFA qualification match against Kazakhstan on March 23 of last year.
Slovenia is set to make their second-ever appearance in the European tournament, with the Central European nation’s last appearance coming back in 2000 at the turn of the century. Slovenia’s path to qualification saw them post a 7-2-1 record, scoring 20 goals and only conceding nine, for a +11 goal differential through 10 matches.
Brekalo and Slovenia will open tournament play this Sunday, June 16, at 12 p.m. ET against Denmark, before taking on Serbia on Thursday, June 20, and England on Tuesday, June 25, to wrap up Group Stage play. Slovenia’s matches with Denmark and Serbia will both be aired in the U.S. on FS1, while their matchup with England will air on FOX.
