The past week has brought a brutal string of travel to the Lions. Starting last week with a match against the Seattle Sounders, Orlando City played three games in ten days-- all on the road. The trip started in Seattle, where the team earned a last minute 1-1 draw, followed by a tough 4-0 loss in Chicago, and then the victory in Salt Lake City.
It’s not easy to win matches on the road, and Jason Kreis and his squad are happy to bring home the four points and earn a win in a stadium that is tough to play in.
"First and foremost, what we talked about today was getting back to what made us really good to begin with at the start of the season,” Servando Carrasco said. “Players were super committed today and I thought that from front to back we showed that we really wanted to get those 3 points tonight."
The Lions have made it through one of the toughest patches in their schedule. Of their five MLS matches in June, three were on the road. To earn four points in those three matches and hold onto their fourth place slot in the Eastern Conference is meaningful.
"Obviously the most important thing tonight was the three points,” Kreis said. “To walk away from a three-game road trip with four points, we have to feel really good about that. The soccer wasn't great. As I said, the result was more important than the soccer."
The Lions will return home on Wednesday night, playing host to Toronto FC before a 10-day break. The match will kickoff at Orlando City Stadium at 7:30pm.
