ORLANDO, Fla. – Nov. 13, 2015 - Orlando City SC is already a club with a global reach. Now fans around the world can come together in support of all things Purple by joining the International Fan Club program.
“We love being the Soccer Capital of the South in the U.S. But the passion that local fans have demonstrated for the Club is now clearly spreading all over the world,” said Orlando City’s Founder and President Phil Rawlins. “With games broadcast to 120 different countries in 30 languages, our culture has global reach. We welcome international fan clubs interested in being part of our unique Club, our unique culture and its people, the best fans in MLS.”
With more than 3,000 followers in diverse social media platforms, the first international fan club to be included in the program is the Brazilian group Torcida Orlando City Brasil, founded by Claudio Santos and João Oliveira. In one year, their fan club has gathered Orlando City fans throughout the United States, Brazil and many other countries.
The Torcida Orlando City Brasil has welcomed with great excitement the opportunity to see Orlando City playing in the Brazilian territory. Hundreds of fans from different parts of the country have organized themselves to travel to Rio de Janeiro in order to attend Sunday’s game against Flamengo at the iconic Maracanã stadium.
“It’s going to be an unforgettable experience for Orlando City and for the Torcida Orlando City Brasil. We’re excited to embrace the club in this historic moment,” celebrated João Oliveira.
There will be a dedicated section for Orlando City fans on the Maracanã stadium on Sunday, when the Lions become the first MLS team to play at this soccer temple.
“There will be a great fraternization on Sunday. And we’ll take care of adding some purple to Maracanã,” said Oliveira.
Orlando City will play Flamengo as part of the Brazilian team’s 120th anniversary celebration.
