Although the Lions are currently in offseason mode, Orlando City’s players have remained very close to the pitch.
Kevin Molino, Rafael Ramos, Estrela, Tyler Turner and Tommy Redding have all been actively competing in fixtures as of late, featuring in various international matches.
Continuing his prolific 2014 scoring form, Molino recently played an instrumental role in Trinidad and Tobago’s success in the CFU Caribbean Cup, scoring eight goals in six games. City’s attacking midfielder propelled the Soca Warriors – while wearing the No. 10 shirt – through to the Cup finals, earning a 2015 Gold Cup berth in the process.
Although the Soca Warriors lost in penalties to Jamaica in the finals, Molino did his part in the dreaded penalty shootout – tucking away his effort with a precise finish just inside the post.
Meanwhile, over in Europe, four Orlando City youngsters earned their first U-20 caps for their respective national teams.
Tyler Turner and Tommy Redding started and played the full 90 in the United States’ 1-0 win over Ireland in the Marbella Tournament. In their final match of the competition against Canada, Turner was also included in the U-20s starting lineup.
Two of City’s most recent additions – Rafael Ramos and Estrela – also received their first national team call ups from Portugal. Both players went on to earn their first-ever caps at the national team level during an international friendly with the U-20 team against England.
Rafael Ramos started at right-back and played the full 90. Estrela came on as a substitute in the 70th minute, as Portugal attempted to push forward for the deciding goal. However, the match between the European foes ended in a 1-1 deadlock.
