“Toronto’s a big club, and they’re a very experienced group. They have people who have been through the mill so they’ll know how important this game is for them as well this weekend,” said head coach Adrian Heath. “It’s a really important game for both clubs for different reasons. For us, more importantly, we want a good result at home.”
Returning home for the first time since facing D.C. United at the Citrus Bowl on Friday, April 3, Orlando City comes into the fixture against Toronto sitting in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
After defeating the Portland Timbers 2-0 at Providence Park two weeks ago, City suffered its first road loss against Columbus Crew SC on Saturday.
However, the Lions will enter familiar territory this weekend, as they play in front of one of the most intimidating fan-bases in MLS. So far in its inaugural season, Orlando has showcased the highest attendance average through three home matches (42,135) – once again displaying that the City Beautiful is the “Soccer Capital of the South.”
Toronto FC. currently sits in ninth place in the East, winning only one match through five games played. After opening the regular season with a strong 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC, the Reds have dropped three points in four consecutive matches – losing to Crew SC, Real Salt Lake, the Chicago Fire and FC Dallas.
Toronto’s recently acquired Designated Player Sebastian Giovinco leads the team in goals (3), after scoring a brace in their 3-2 loss to FC Dallas last weekend.
