Orlando City’s Wilder Cartagena & Pedro Gallese selected for Copa América 2024

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 17, 2024) – Orlando City goalkeeper Pedro Gallese and midfielder Wilder Cartagena have been named to Peru’s final roster for the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024, it was recently announced.

The Peruvian duo have combined for almost 150 caps for La Bicolor, with Gallese making 106 total appearances and 40 career shutouts, including 23 matches and 10 clean sheets to date in Copa America, while Cartagena has played in 33 matches for the South American country including four caps in Copa America games.

Peru has previously won South America’s most prestigious national team competition on two separate occasions, in 1939, at home in Peru, and most recently in 1975. La Bicolor most recently made it to the semifinals in 2021, falling to Brazil via a 1-0 scoreline.

Gallese holds Orlando City’s all-time goalkeeper records for appearances (118), minutes played (10,620), saves (318), clean sheets (32) and wins (51) across all competitions since joining Orlando City via transfer from Alianza Lima in 2020. Gallese is set to captain Peru in this year’s tournament.

Cartagena joined Orlando City originally on loan in 2022, before being acquired fully by the Club ahead of the 2024 campaign. The Lima, Peru native has made 39 starts in 46 appearances for the Lions, scoring one goal and providing two assists across that span.

Peru is set to open tournament play on Friday, June 21, with a matchup against Chile at 8 p.m. ET, before taking on Canada on Tuesday, June 25, at 6 p.m. ET, and will wrap up Group Stage action against Argentina on Saturday, June 29, at 8 p.m. ET. All of La Bicolor’s matches in Group A action will air on FS1.
