ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 3, 2024) – Ahead of the 2024 MLS season, Orlando City SC has acquired forward Iván Angulo from Brazilian side Palmeiras, it was announced today. Angulo joins the Club fully on a guaranteed contract through 2025, with a Club option in 2026.
"Iván has been so impactful for us these last few years, not only with his creativity in the attacking phase of play but also with his defensive pressure from the wing,” said Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “He’s ingrained himself into the group since the moment he arrived and has been invaluable for us and we’re excited to have him here as part of our foundation for next season.”
Angulo, 24, joined the Lions during their 2022 campaign on loan from Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras of Brazil's Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. In his first two season in the City Beautiful, the forward made 54 appearances, starting in 44 of those matches, scored six goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions, including four game-winning strikes and two game-winning helpers.
The Tumaco, Colombia native scored his first goal for the Lions this past season, scoring the game-winner against the Philadelphia Union on March 25, and provided his first helper for the Club the season prior on Tesho Akindele’s 96th-minute winner against NYCFC in August 28. He recorded his first playoff goal scoring the game winner against Nashville SC at GEODIS Park on Nov. 7, which helped the Lions clinch their spot in the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinal.
