ORLANDO, Fla. (June 5, 2025) – Orlando City SC defender Alex Freeman has been named to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster that will compete at 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, U.S. Soccer announced today.
“We’re proud to see Alex earning important opportunities with the national team, which is a reflection of the hard work he’s put in every day at our club,” said Ricardo Moreira, Orlando City SC General Manager & Sporting Director. “His growth over the past couple of years has been tremendous, and we believe he has the talent and mentality to keep pushing to the next level. This call-up is yet another testament to that potential.
Freeman, 20, is in his fourth season with Orlando City after signing as a Homegrown Player in 2022 at the age of 17. His call-up comes amid a breakout year in which he leads all the defenders in MLS in goals scored (4), while playing a key role in Orlando City’s club-record-tying unbeaten run earlier this season (12 games). The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native has made 20 regular-season appearances for the Lions since his MLS debut in 2023, registering four goals and two assists.
The USMNT kicks off their Gold Cup run on June 15 when they take on Trinidad and Tobago at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif. (6 p.m. ET). Four days later, the U.S. faces Saudi Arabia at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas (9:15 p.m. ET) and concludes their Group D play against Haiti at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas (7 p.m. ET).
Prior to the start of the Gold Cup, the U.S. will take part in a pair of friendlies, first hosting Türkiye on June 7 (3:30 p.m. ET) at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., before facing Switzerland at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tenn., on June 10 (8 p.m. ET).
