ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 20, 2024) – Orlando City selected four players on Friday afternoon in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, adding one forward, one midfielder and two defenders. With one pick in the first round, the Lions opened by selecting midfielder Joran Gerbet No. 27 overall out of Clemson University.
“The draft is always interesting with so many quality players available each and every year. This year we feel like we got top players that we’ve identified through scouting and detailed analysis as being able to help us and that will make us better,” said Orlando City SC EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “We selected a mix of experienced players and younger players that we believe will fit the culture of the team and our next steps within the project, and we’re happy with how this draft went for us.”
With their first pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, the Lions selected midfielder Joran Gerbet with the No. 27 overall pick out of Clemson University. The Valence, France, native played two seasons at Oregon State before transferring and playing his final two years at Clemson, making 76 starts in 78 total appearances across his collegiate career and scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists in those matches. A 2023 National Champion with Clemson, Gerbet was named the ACC Midfielder of the Year and First Team All-ACC in 2024, was named the 2022 PAC-12 Player of the Year at Oregon State and All PAC-12 First Team and was the PAC-12 Freshmen of the Year in 2021.
With the No. 46 overall pick in the draft, the Lions selected defender Titus Sandy Jr. out of Clemson University, joining his Tigers teammate Gerbet in heading to Orlando. The Charlotte, N.C., native played all four years of his collegiate career at Clemson, making 24 starts in 48 total appearances, providing four assists and playing over 2,500 minutes. Sandy Jr. was also a member of Clemson’s 2023 National Championship team and was recognized in 2023 on the Academic All-ACC Team.
Orlando City acquired the No. 46 pick in the draft from Real Salt Lake in July of 2024 as part of the trade for the Right of First Refusal to former Lions’ forward Benji Michel.
Later in the second round, Orlando City selected forward Collins Oduro with the No. 57 overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft out of Indiana University. The Sophomore from the Hoosiers has started 41 matches in 44 total appearances to date through his first two seasons of NCAA play, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists. Oduro helped lead the Hoosiers to the 2023 Big Ten regular season championship and the 2023 Big Ten Tournament title, earning Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors for his efforts.
Finally, with the No. 87 overall pick, the Lions selected Takahiro Fujita, a defender out of Marshall University. The Nara, Japan, native started 27 matches in 40 appearances across his freshman and sophomore campaigns, scoring one goal and providing four assists. The defender featured on a backline for Marshall in 2023 that posted 12 clean sheets and went all the way to the 2024 NCAA Men's College Cup.
