ORLANDO, Fla. (Aug. 22, 2024) – Orlando City SC and forward Duncan McGuire have agreed to a new contract that will keep the 2024 Olympian in the City Beautiful through 2027, with a Club option in 2028.
"We are incredibly happy to have signed Duncan to a new contract and for his desire to stay here with us in Orlando,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “Since he’s arrived here, he’s been a vital piece of our team and he will continue to be for the foreseeable future. We’re excited to see what more Duncan can accomplish, as he helps us push for more championships and as he fights for a spot on the U.S. roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
“I’m really happy to get this deal done and know that I can call Orlando home for the next three years. It’s a great place to be, and I'm excited to see what the future holds here,” McGuire said. “It means a lot that the Club has shown trust and faith in me, and that goes a long way. I hope I can re-pay the favor by continuing to do what I've been doing the past year, for both the team and the fans.”
McGuire, 23, has made 42 starts in 63 appearances all-time for Orlando City, scoring 23 goals and providing five assists. In 2024, the forward has tallied eight goals and two helpers to date across all competitions, resulting in him being selected to represent the U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. McGuire made two starts in four appearances for the U.S. in their first appearance at the Olympics since 2008, helping the side advance to the knockout rounds.
The Omaha, Nebraska native made 24 starts in 36 appearances for the Lions across all competitions in his rookie campaign, scoring 15 total goals and providing an additional three assists. Four of McGuire’s tallies counted as MLS game-winners, with the first goal of his professional career coming on March 11, 2023, against D.C. United in a match that also served as his professional debut.
McGuire was originally selected by the Lions as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft following a senior season as Creighton that saw him win the 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy after a nation-leading 23 goals in NCAA play.
