ORLANDO, Fla. (May 7, 2023) — With the start of the Lions’ Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title defense just days away, Orlando City SC has announced the premiere of For Our City, a documentary about the Club’s run to its first-ever MLS era trophy. Shot and produced in-house, For Our City will take fans behind-the-scenes in the days leading into September 7, 2022, the date Orlando City made history.
For Our City will debut at 6 p.m. ET on Monday, May 8, only on OrlandoCitySC.com.
“2022 was a historic season for our Club, our fans and our community, and we’re so excited to kick off the defense of our championship with the debut of this incredible documentary," Orlando City SC President of Business Operations Jarrod Dillon said. “A lot of hard work went into winning the Open Cup trophy on the field, and a lot of hard work went into putting this film together off the field. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in this production, especially to Luiz, Oscar and the Soccer Operations group for trusting us with access and opportunity to bring this project to life.”
In addition to never-before-seen content, For Our City features interviews with many of the key figures along the six-game streak, including captain Mauricio Pereyra, designated player Facundo Torres, defender Antonio Carlos and former Lions forward Benji Michel.
In addition to For Our City, fans can commemorate the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Championship by purchasing a limited-edition replica championship ring, available at the link here. The ring, which was presented to the Lions earlier in the week, was designed to commemorate the Lions’ historic title run with features such as six purple stones to represent each one of the six victories in the run and an engraving of the team’s home, Exploria Stadium.
After playing all six of their 2022 Open Cup matches from the confines of Exploria Stadium, Orlando City opens 2023 play on Tuesday, May 9 on the road. The side will travel to face fellow MLS opponent Charlotte FC in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews.
The match will be available to watch on CBS Sports Golazo Network, a free 24-hour soccer streaming network that is available on connected TV and mobile devices through the CBS Sports App and Pluto TV, on CBSSports.com, as well as on Paramount+.
