ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 16, 2025) – Orlando City SC announced today the transfer of defender Rodrigo Schlegel to Atlas F.C. of Liga MX, Mexico’s top division.

"Rodrigo has been an incredible part of our history," said Ricardo Moreira, Orlando City SC General Manager & Sporting Director. "His commitment, passion and leadership have left a lasting mark on this Club. From his unforgettable role in our first playoff win to helping us lift our first trophy in our MLS era, Rodrigo has given everything to Orlando City. We are deeply grateful for all he has done, both on and off the field, and wish him and his family the very best in this next chapter of his career."

Schlegel, 28, made 155 starts in 180 appearances for the Lions across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing one assist in that span. The Remedios de Escalada, Argentina, native leaves Orlando City ranked fourth all-time in appearances across all competitions. In 2025, Schlegel made 40 appearances, all starts, and tallied one goal.

The Argentine defender joined the Lions on loan ahead of the 2020 MLS campaign after starting his career at Racing Club of Argentina’s Primera División. That year, he helped Orlando City secure its first-ever Audi MLS Cup Playoffs win, memorably stepping in as goalkeeper during a dramatic penalty shootout. He went on to play a key a role as the Club won the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup—Orlando City’s first MLS-era trophy—and helped the Lions reach six consecutive postseason appearances, the league’s longest active streak.
