ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 2, 2023) – Orlando City SC has transferred Designated Player and forward Ercan Kara to Samsunspor of Turkey’s Trendyol Süper Lig for an undisclosed fee, it was announced today.
“First we would like to thank Ercan for his dedication and professionalism throughout his time in Orlando,” said Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “Over the last two years, he played key roles in some of the biggest moments in our Club’s history, including Concacaf Champions League and our Open Cup Championship run. We wish him nothing but the best in this next chapter of his career.”
Kara, 27, departs the City Beautiful after joining the Lions as a Designated Player in January of 2022. Since joining Orlando City from Rapid Vienna of the Austrian Bundesliga, Kara scored the Club’s first-ever goal in Concacaf Champions League play against Tigres UANL, helped the Lions to qualify for the Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs, and scored one goal en route to securing the first trophy in their MLS era, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Overall, the Vienna, Austria, native notched 18 goals and provided five assists in purple, starting 37 of his 53 appearances across all competitions for Orlando City.
