This past weekend in Auburndale the Orlando City Youth Soccer Club Girls 2004 pre-ECNL team conquered their quest for a State Championship with a 2-0 win over defending champion Tampa Bay United. The journey to the finals took an exciting turn the day before in the State Championship semi-finals, when the girls beat Weston pre-ECNL 1-0 on a game winning goal with just seven minutes left in the match.
In the final, after a tense start, the team settled and scored via a superbly executed counter attack with ten minutes left in the first half to take a 1-0 halftime lead. In the second half the team continued comfortably to control the tempo of the game and scored a second goal with 13 minutes to play.
"Progress from the round of 16 has been smooth. All the way through to the final game Orlando City YSC didn't concede a single goal. The work rate, effort and togetherness of the team was remarkable throughout the competition," said Coach Gobble. In addition to the players, Coach Gobble highlighted the collective effort of the families of the players too, "the team is so much more than the players and the Coach, we had supportive families who were willing to travel and reinforce our teachings throughout the season. When this happens we achieve more together."
The Girls 2004 pre-ECNLl will represent Orlando City YSC at Southeast regionals in North Carolina in late June.
