ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2021) — Orlando Pride has appointed Ian Fleming as the team’s general manager, it was announced today. Fleming, a veteran soccer professional with experience in law, strategy and analytics, joins the Pride from the Houston Dynamo and Dash organization where he most recently contributed to the Dash’s 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup title.
Fleming, 34, joined the Club in December and fills the vacancy left by Erik Ustruck, who now works exclusively with the Club’s men’s operations. The Pride general manager position is fully dedicated to the Pride’s operation, positioning the Club to make strategic, informed soccer decisions that align with larger, organizational goals.
In this role, Fleming will oversee the Pride soccer operations, including player personnel matters such as trades, contract negotiations and player acquisitions as well as the team’s sports performance, scouting and analytics, and player support staff, while reporting directly to Executive Vice President, Amanda Duffy. Duffy will continue to lead the Pride, overseeing both the front office and overall soccer operations.
While with Houston, Fleming worked with the Dash and Dynamo technical staff to provide analytics to assist in the team’s draft, trade and technical decisions. As the club’s Director of Strategy and Analytics, Fleming also created a unique player scouting model that evaluates players and their potential on-field impact. The Chicago-Kent Law School graduate also worked with the organization’s front office to establish data-driven models to aid in the club’s business strategies and decisions, a similar role held during his time with the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.
Fleming will be present at the Pride’s table on Wednesday evening, representing the Club during the 2021 NWSL Draft, which begins at 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on Twitch. He will hold his first availability with media following the completion of the Draft.
