ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2023) - The Orlando Pride has signed goalkeeper Carly Nelson to a two-year contract through 2024, with an option for an additional year, it was announced today.
“We are excited to add Carly to our group for the coming season,” Orlando Pride Head Coach Seb Hines said of the signing. “She’s a very talented goalkeeper with a few years of professional experience already under her belt, who will add even more competition amongst a very talented goalkeeper group. We’re happy to welcome her here to Orlando and look forward to having her as a member of the Pride.”
Nelson, 24, joins the Pride after spending the last two seasons at FC Nordsjælland of the Danish top-flight. Since heading overseas in 2021, originally on loan from the Kansas City Current, Nelson has appeared 32 times in all competitions, posting nine clean sheets in that span.
The Lindon, Utah native joined the NWSL in 2020, signing with OL Reign, but did not make her NWSL debut until the following year as a member of the Current, posting a shutout in her professional debut on July 23, 2021 in a scoreless draw against the North Carolina Courage in what would serve as her lone match of the season.
A graduate of the University of Utah, Nelson finished her collegiate career with 62 appearances for the Utes, tallying 273 saves and 23 shutouts in the span. As a senior in 2019 she earned All Pac-12 honors, leading the conference in shutouts (10), saves (105) and minutes played (1985).
