ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2022) — The Orlando Pride has signed 2020 NWSL Draft selection Kerry Abello, it was announced today. A product of Penn State University, Abello joins the Pride on a two-year contract and will be placed on the team’s supplemental roster.
“We are excited to welcome Kerry to the City Beautiful and our Club. We've kept a keen eye on Kerry since drafting her a year ago and are pleased that she will continue her development path here with us,” Orlando Pride General Manager Ian Fleming said. “Her versatility and history of playing across a number of positions at Penn State is an asset, while her natural left foot is a luxury that I'm sure many teams in our league would love to have. We are confident that she has a bright future ahead of her at this level.”
Abello, 22, was selected No. 24 overall by the Pride in the 2021 NWSL Draft. After being selected, the defender elected to play her fifth year at Penn State, where she would go on to make 21 appearances with two goals and three assists. Over her five seasons in State College, Abello earned All-North region honors twice while being named a three-time All-Big Ten honoree.
The Batavia, Ill., native helped lead the Nittany Lions to three Big Ten Championships, while also earning call-ups to numerous U.S. youth national teams over the course of her career.
The Pride will begin the 2022 preseason on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at the Orlando Health Training Ground at Sylvan Lake Park. Season ticket memberships for the 2022 campaign are currently on sale at Orlando-Pride.com or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
