1. Heartbreak in Orlando, as Orlando City SC fell 2-3 to Minnesota United FC on Saturday night. Bongokuhle Hlongwane's goal in the 90'+6 minute broke the hearts of the Orlando faithful and handed the Lions their first home loss of the season.
2. The start to the match couldn't have been better. Just 13 seconds into the match, Duncan McGuire put away the fastest goal in Lions history. A forced turnover by Rafael Santos turned into the perfect pass into the forward to put away. His record goal beats Tesho Akindele's 2021 goal that came 31 seconds into their match against FC Cincinnati. Funny enough, both Akindele and McGuire wore the #13 when breaking the record.
3. McGuire's second goal late into the game was just as impressive. After Martin Ojeda forced a turnover, he found the striker in space at the top of the box. One small touch forward was all it took to set Duncan up to fire far post to tie the game at 2-2 at the time.
4. The match added injury and suspension after Cesar Araujo was forced out of the match in the 40th minute after making a cut to try and win the ball back. Wilder Cartagena, who subbed in for the midfielder, was shown a red card well after the final whistle after a scuffle ensued when the game ended.
5. Orlando City celebrated its 10th season anniversary in MLS, having many of the former players on the field be recognized prior to the game. One of the most memorable players from the USL Pro days, Jamie Watson, addressed the crowd before the game, thanking the fans for their years of support.
6. It was a game in which the Lions controlled the majority of the chances created, building up a 3.60 expected goals. However, missed chances in front of the goal came back to haunt them in the end after only being able to score two on the night.
7. Probably the most frustrating almost goal came in first-half stoppage time after Dagur Dan Thorhallsson crossed the ball into Felipe, who found himself open in front of goal. Unfortunately, the ball popped up as he tried to hit it, and it ended up going over goal. It was the second-highest expected goal from the Lions, other than Duncan's first goal of the game.
8. More frustration for the Lions on the night was the amount of turnovers in the midfield the team had. Too many times the team was looking to build into the attack the flow of play got interrupted by a costly turnover, leading to a Minnesota attack.
9. The Lions' sheer number of games played looks to be catching up to them. As the match crept into stoppage time, Orlando looked a step slower than their opposition. So many teams that are playing multiple competitions this early in the season are dealing with similar issues, but there's not much they can do other than keep playing and try to manage player minutes.
10. In 72 hours, the Lions will head to Mexico for the second leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup match against Tigres UANL. It's another very quick turnaround for Orlando, which hosted the first leg just five days ago. It's arguably the most important match of the young season, with a chance to advance to the Round of 8 with a win or draw. It'll all kick off late in Monterrey, with kickoff set for 10:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
