It’s a team that’s still growing; still coming into its own. But in their inaugural season in the Nation Women’s Soccer League, the Orlando Pride have made their statement quickly that they will be a force this year and in years to come.
The team is nearing the end of a two-week break between matches, and has been using the time to get fit and prepped following a 2-0 defeat at the hands of FC Kansas City.
Forward Jasmyne Spencer addressed the teams training over the break after what she called a “tough loss to Kansas.”
“Time off means there’s time to decrease fitness, so we’re just trying to keep ourselves at a high level.” “I think [the team needs to be] more consistent on our possession. When we’re on the ball and we keep the ball, we’re a dangerous team.”
The Pride are 4-3-0 with 12 points through the first seven games of the season, and currently sit in fourth place on the league table, the last qualifying position for the playoffs. They take on the Western New York Flash, who sit right behind them on the table, this Saturday.
Spencer is confident in that this break has helped the team grow, and even more confident in her team’s ability to win when they play to their potential.
“When we play, no one can beat us.”
