Morgan’s Milestone
Alex Morgan recorded her 100th regular season appearance in the NWSL this past Wednesday when Orlando took on Chicago. Of the 100, 64 of Morgan’s appearances came as a member of the Pride. Over the 100 appearances, Morgan has recorded a total of 38 regular season goals and 19 assists.
About Last Time
Racing Louisville traveled to Downtown Orlando on Sept. 11 where the Pride scored the Club’s 150th goal across all NWSL competitions and beat Louisville 3-1. Sydney Leroux, Marta and Alex Morgan all found the back of the net for the Pride and Cece Kizer pulled one back for the visitors. The match also marked the professional debut for University of Florida product Parker Roberts.
Regular Season First
The Pride’s road trip to Lynn Family Stadium will be the first-ever regular season meeting in Louisville between the two sides, however the Pride did play Racing in its debut home match at the start of the 2021 Challenge Cup. That match ended in a 2-2 tie after a flurry of late goals. Lynn Family Stadium was recently named the new home to the 2021 NWSL Championship match. Currently, the Pride are unbeaten all time against Racing Louisville, with a record of 1-0-2.
Looking Uphill
After dropping the team’s midweek match against Chicago, the Pride fell down the league table to eighth place with 28 points. While still in the playoff hunt, the Pride will need to turn results in its last two matches this season and get help from other team’s dropping points. Only the top six teams will make it to the playoffs, with the top two teams earning a bye.
Nearly Golden
Sydney Leroux currently leads the Pride with eight goals scored this season, which is the most she has scored in a single season since 2013 when she scored 11 with the Boston Breakers. With three players currently sitting atop the league leaderboard at nine goals scored, Leroux sits just one goal behind, meaning she’s still in the thick of the Golden Boot race with just two matches left this season.
G’day Mate!
After signing with the Pride recently, Australian international Emily van Egmond could make her return to the lineup on Saturday at Louisville. The midfielder, who spent last season and early 2021 with England’s West Ham United, has joined the Club in Louisville and will be available for selection this weekend. After joining the Pride in 2018, van Egmond has made 25 appearances in purple with two assists. She made 21 appearances during her stint at West Ham, chalking up four goals.
For Club and Country
- Ahead of the international break, five Orlando Pride players have been called in for international duty.
- Alex Morgan will represent the United States when the team takes on Korea Republic in Kansas and Minnesota.
- Gold Medalist Erin McLeod has been called up to represent Canada in the team's celebration tour matches which will be played against teammate Ali Riley, who was called up to the New Zealand Women’s National Team.
- Gunny Jónsdóttir was called up to represent Iceland for FIFA 2023 qualifying matches.
- Marta will feature for Brazil in a pair of friendlies against Australia.
