Joanna Boyles registered the first two-goal contributions of her professional career last Saturday in Houston. The University of North Carolina-product opened the scoring in the match in the 13th minute, when she stepped up and buried a free kick from right outside the area for her first professional goal. Boyles also recorded an assist in the match on Danica Evans’ game-tying goal in the 71st, which served as her first assist in NWSL play. Boyles has appeared in six matches for the Pride in 2019 since joining the Club in the offseason.



Evans With the Equalizer


Forward Danica Evans registered her first goal of 2019 on Saturday against Houston in her first touch of the match after coming off the bench in the 70th minute. This served as Evans’ second goal for the Pride and the first of the season for Orlando in the run of play, as well as the 100th in Club history across all competitions. Evans also scored the first goal at Orlando City Stadium for the Pride on April 22, 2017, which served as her first professional goal. 



You’ve Been Seeing a Lot of Her...


After playing a full 90 minutes at Houston last Saturday, Orlando Pride midfielder Dani Weatherholt became the Club’s all-time minutes leader with 4,718 career regular-season minutes. Weatherholt surpassed midfielder Kristen Edmonds on the night, who sits at 4,629. Weatherholt has captained the Pride in their last four matches and has appeared in every match this season for Orlando.

The next goal for the Orlando Pride will be their 100th in the NWSL regular season.
Forward Chioma Ubogagu’s next appearance will be her 50th for the Pride and her 65th in NWSL overall. 



World Cup Watch


  • Australian internationals Alanna Kennedy and Emily van Egmond each played the entirety of The Matildas’ final two group stage matches, both resulting in victories. Australia came back from two goals down to defeat Brazil 3-2 in their second match of group play and then cruised to a 4-1 victory over Jamaica on Tuesday to secure a spot in the Round of 16, finishing second in Group C. 
  • Marta further solidified her status as the G.O.A.T in Brazil’s last two group stage matches, finding the back of the net once in each of their last two contests to up her World Cup goal total to 17. She now holds the record for the most goals scored in FIFA World Cup history, passing Germany’s Miroslav Klose with her penalty finish against Italy. The Brazilian international is now also the only player, male or female, to score in five different World Cups. Pride forward Camila did not appear for Brazil in the group stage. After falling to Australia, Brazil bounced back with a 1-0 win over Italy to advance to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-place teams. 
  • The Pride’s newest addition, Scottish international Claire Emslie, came off the bench for her national team in their 2-1 loss to Japan in their second match of the group stage. Emslie featured in the starting XI and played the entirety of the match in Scotland’s final match in Group D play against Argentina, resulting in a 3-3 draw that eliminated the Scots from their first World Cup. 
  • Shelina Zadorsky played the entirety of Canada’s final two group stage matches in a 2-0 victory over New Zealand and a 2-1 loss to the Netherlands. With their results, the Canadians finished second in Group E and will advance to the Round of 16. 
  • The United States rounded out group play with a 3-0 victory over Chile this past Sunday and a 2-0 in over Sweden to finish atop Group F. Orlando Pride defender Ali Krieger started and played the full 90 minutes for the U.S. against Chile, serving as her 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup debut. Alex Morgan started and captained the U.S. against Sweden, playing the first 45 minutes of the victory.
