Milestones
- Orlando City is on a eleven-game unbeaten run, the second-longest in club history. With a win or draw against Inter Miami on Sunday, Orlando will match its club-record 12-game unbeaten streak from the 2020 season. As of Sunday, Orlando will have gone 71 consecutive days without a defeat.
- If Iván Angulo plays in Sunday’s match, it will mark his 100th consecutive MLS appearance (regular season and playoffs) for Orlando City dating back to 2022.
- Martín Ojeda ranks eighth in Orlando City history with 21 goals in all competitions. Ojeda’s next goal will tie him with Chris Mueller for seventh all-time, and the Argentine is three away from catching Dom Dwyer in sixth.
Stats & Storylines
- Orlando City eased past Charlotte FC 3-1 on Wednesday night to move up into sixth place in the crowded Eastern Conference table, just one point behind Florida Derby rivals Inter Miami. Orlando has scored 11 goals in its past three games in all competitions.
- The Lions have scored 66 goals in their past 30 MLS regular season games dating back to June 2024, going 16-6-8 (1.87 PPG) over that stretch. Orlando has scored three or more goals in 14 of those games, posting a 12-1-1 record when netting three or more times in a match.
- Martín Ojeda continued his MVP-level campaign with another goal on Wednesday, bringing him to 8 G/4 A in 14 appearances across all competitions this year. Ojeda was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for the second week in a row. The Argentine has 11 G/12 A across his past 25 MLS regular season starts, coinciding almost directly with Orlando’s massive uptick in goalscoring last summer.
- Luis Muriel scored again on Wednesday, matching his goal haul from 2024 in 20 fewer matches as he continues a resurgent 2025 campaign. Muriel has started 11 consecutive league games for Orlando City and ranks 10th among all MLS players in non-penalty expected goals and assists per 90 minutes, per Football Reference.
- Left back David Brekalo provided the first two assists of his Orlando career on Wednesday, adding some playmaking punch to what’s been a stroke of genius by Oscar Pareja on the defensive side. Orlando has allowed just four goals in the 654 minutes since Brekalo was inserted into the left back spot for the first time on March 29. Brekalo joined Ojeda on the MLS Team of the Matchday for his performance against Charlotte.
- Defensive midfielder Joran Gerbet, a breakout success story in his rookie season out of Clemson, put together his best performance yet, completing an astonishing 98% of his passes while setting the tempo for Orlando in their Wednesday win. Gerbet led Orlando to a season-high 88.9% passing accuracy against Charlotte.

Meet the opponent: Inter Miami CF
- The color of Florida hangs in the balance as Orlando City travels down to, well, not quite Miami to take on Lionel Messi and his merry band of Barcelona boys on Sunday Night Soccer. The series is exactly even across 15 matches over first five years, with each team winning five games and both sides drawing the other five.
- Things haven’t been so merry for Miami over the past few weeks. The Herons were blasted out of CONCACAF Champions Cup 5-1 on aggregate by the Vancouver Whitecaps, then returned to the league to a 4-1 blowout in Minnesota last weekend and a 3-3 draw in San Jose on Wednesday night. Miami has won just once in its last six in all competitions and has conceded 17 goals in that span.
- Messi himself has relatively mortal numbers in 2025 after a 2024 in which he posted a ridiculous 20 G/16 A in 19 games, winning Landon Donovan MLS MVP honors despite missing nearly half the season due to injury or international duty. Despite better availability, the Argentine legend has “just” 5 G/2 A in nine MLS regular season games, though he did score five more in CONCACAF Champions Cup play.
- Luís Suarez, one of Messi’s former Barcelona compatriots who managed 2 G/2 A against Orlando in last year’s 5-0 loss at Chase Stadium, leads Miami in goal contributions with eight, assisting six goals while scoring two. The Uruguayan has missed each of Miami’s past two games.
- Another of the Barca gang, left back Jordi Alba, just signed a new contract with Inter Miami that will keep him in south Florida through 2027. Alba has five assists and has appeared in all but one MLS match for Miami this season.
- Other top contributors for the Herons include talented youngsters Telasco Segovia (3 G/4 A) and Tadeo Allende (4 G) along with longtime MLS journeyman Fafa Picault (3 G/3 A). Picault has excellent career numbers against the Lions, scoring five goals and adding two assists in nine MLS appearances.
