Everything you need to know for the Lions' match-up with Miami in "The Road Ahead" driven by Audi:

Milestones

- Martín Ojeda has a goal contribution in thirteen consecutive matches, a club record he can extend to fourteen with a goal or an assist on Wednesday.

- Ojeda’s next goal will be his 30th in all competitions for Orlando City, a mark only three other players have reached (Facundo Torres, 47; Cyle Larin, 44; Nani, 31). Ojeda will become the first 30/30 player in Orlando City history with one more goal.

- Ojeda’s next assist will be his 40th in all competitions for Orlando City, making him the second player in club history to reach that mark (Mauricio Pereyra, 47).

- Ojeda is four goal contributions away from matching Facundo Torres’ Orlando City career record of 72.

- Oscar Pareja is two wins away from 100 in all competitions as Orlando City head coach.

Stats & Storylines

- Orlando City is on to the Leagues Cup quarterfinals after a 5-1 thrashing of Necaxa on Wednesday. As it turned out, the Lions had to win by three goals in order to advance, meaning the clincher was the second of Luis Muriel’s three goals. Orlando will face reigning Liga MX champion Toluca on either August 19 or 20 at a time and venue to be determined.

- Martín Ojeda continued his nuclear heater on Wednesday, opening the scoring with an incredible volley and adding Orlando’s fifth goal late on while also assisting Luis Muriel’s third goal. After notching 3g/3a in the first phase of Leagues Cup, Ojeda has 16g/16a in 30 matches in all competitions in 2025, earning more goal contributions (32) than any other MLS player except Lionel Messi (36 in 31 matches played). Ojeda has scored or assisted a goal in each of Orlando City’s last 13 matches in all competitions, putting up 8g/12a in that timeframe.

- Muriel broke out of his goal drought with a stunning first half hat trick, the fastest a player has scored three goals in a match in Orlando City history (11:30). The hat trick was Orlando’s second of the season, after Ojeda’s against New England in May. Muriel is up to 9g/6a in all competitions this season. With six more goal contributions on Wednesday, Orlando City’s Designated Players are up to a staggering 64 goals and assists in 2025.

- Iván Angulo continues to tear it up since his return to the starting lineup, adding two more assists to his tally in the win over Necaxa. Angulo is at 1g/5a in six games since coming back into the XI and is up to 32 career assists, third in club history.

- Orlando City has officially announced two new signings in the summer transfer window, adding winger Tyrese Spicer in a trade with Toronto FC and bringing in left-side defender Adrián Marín from SC Braga in Portugal. Spicer, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft, will provide valuable left-footed attacking depth for the Lions, while the versatile veteran Marín should figure into Oscar Pareja’s defensive setup.

Meet the opponent: Inter Miami CF

- Orlando City obliterated Inter Miami in one of the most lopsided beatdowns in the Lions’ history back on May 18, blitzing the Herons in a 3-0 win that could have easily been double that based on the volume of chances Orlando created. Luis Muriel struck first off a long ball by Pedro Gallese while Miami’s players were appealing to the referee for a backpass, while Marco Pašalić and Dagur Dan Thórhallsson both found the back of the net in the second half.

- Miami star Lionel Messi’s status for the weekend is unconfirmed after the Argentine legend left Miami’s Leagues Cup match with Necaxa last week, just minutes after kickoff, with an injury. Messi has 18g/9a in MLS play this year, including 13g/6a in the eight regular season matches he has played since the Orlando game.

- The Herons added more international firepower during the summer window, signing central midfielder Rodrigo de Paul on loan from Atlético Madrid for the rest of the season with a purchase option through 2029. De Paul started every match for Messi’s 2022 World Cup-winning Argentina side and has 78 total caps in his illustrious national team career. De Paul has never won a club trophy, though he was named to the La Liga Team of the Season for 2024/25. The 31-year-old scored his first Miami goal on Wednesday night against Pumas UNAM as the Herons qualified for the Leagues Cup quarterfinals.

- Whether or not Messi is available, Miami should have the rest of their cadre of stars on Sunday, including de Paul, striker Luis Suarez (10g/15a in all competitions this season), defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets (0g/7a), and left back Jordi Alba (3g/9a). Youngsters Telasco Segovia and Tadeo Allende have seven regular season goals apiece for Inter Miami this season.
