Stats & Storylines
- Orlando City smashed Inter Miami for the second time in 2025 on Sunday Night Soccer this past weekend, blowing out the Herons 4-1 in front of a raucous crowd at Inter&Co Stadium. Luis Muriel followed up his mid-week hat trick against Necaxa with a 2g/1a night, while fellow DPs MartÃn Ojeda and Marco PaÅ¡alić also found the scoresheet.
- Orlando’s Designated Players are up to a staggering 70 goal contributions in 31 matches in all competitions between the three of them, with Ojeda leading the way at 34 (17g/17a) and Muriel (11g/7a) and Pašalić (13g/5a) tied at 18 apiece.
- Ojeda has taken over the milestone section of this article, and the Orlando No. 10 made more history on Sunday night against Miami. Ojeda became the second Orlando player ever to reach 40 career assists and the fourth to hit 30 goals – he’s the only player to do both. His goal contribution streak, now at a mind-blowing 14 straight matches, is now twice as long as his previous record run from last season. The Argentine has turned it up even further lately, with multiple goal contributions in five of his past six matches and 7g/6a total in that stretch. Ojeda has 17g/22a in his last 37 regular season starts dating back to June 2024.
- Ojeda’s MVP campaign has gone full steam ahead. After placing fourth in Sacha Kljestan’s MVP Power Rankings this past week, Ojeda went and dropped 3g/2a across two games in two competitions. In MLS play, Ojeda’s 13 assists and 27 goal contributions rank second behind San Diego’s Anders Dreyer, and his 14 goals are tied for sixth. Ojeda is the only player in the top six in both goals and assists.
- Muriel took a starring role again, finishing off a five-goal week by ripping Miami apart twice, including a vicious turn past Jordi Alba for what turned into the game winner. Muriel has 3g/1a in two matches against Inter Miami this season. Pašalić appears to be heating up as well, with goals in two of his past three matches.
- Orlando City swept the season series from Inter Miami for the first time in the six-year history of the rivalry, winning the two games by an aggregate score of 7-1. Miami is winless in eight games played in Orlando, counting the first-ever meeting between the teams at the MLS is Back Tournament in 2020.
- With four more tallies on Sunday night, Orlando tied Miami and San Diego FC for the league scoring lead at 50 goals. The Lions have scored 66 goals in 31 matches in all competitions in 2025.

Meet the opponent: Sporting Kansas City
- Orlando City’s magical second half of 2024, in which it went 11-4-2, took a rare speed bump at Children’s Mercy Park last August, when a rusty Lions team came off the Leagues Cup break and took a 3-0 loss to SKC. That game marked the only time Orlando City was shut out over the final 16 regular season games in 2024.
- SKC is set to visit Orlando for the first time since August 14, 2019, when an early goal from Tesho Akindele held up in a 1-0 win. That game was notable for being the final win in Orlando City history prior to Oscar Pareja’s arrival, as well as the game prior to Mauricio Pereyra’s debut with the club three nights later in Minnesota.
- It’s a new era in Kansas City – earlier this season, the club parted ways with longtime head coach and sporting director Peter Vermes, setting the stage for new management in KC for the first time since 2009. Kerry Zavagnin, who played nine years in KC and served as Vermes’ deputy for the former coach’s entire legendary run, has a 6-8-5 record this season as the interim head coach, though the team has fallen on hard times of late with losses in three of four.
- DP striker Dejan Joveljic, acquired via a cash trade with cap-strapped MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy this offseason, has been a bright spot in a tough season for SKC, scoring 13 goals to lead the side. Playmaker Manu GarcÃa has provided nine assists, while veteran Daniel Sallói has been steady as usual with 6g/4a.
