Orlando City’s U-11 Pro Academy spent their Thanksgiving break among the best teams in the nation at the prestigious Disney Junior Showcase. The Lions qualified for the competition in August and went into the event looking to prove themselves on a national stage. They certainly did just that, as they went on to win the whole tournament.
The young Lions began being drawn into a difficult group consisting of North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina but the team didn’t shy away from the competition. They dispatched all three of their opponents in dominating wins sending them to the Semi-Finals.
The Lions continued their form from the group stage as they took down their opponents from Tampa in a dramatic 4-3 match to take the club to the Finals. City continued their winning ways in the Final match winning 3-0 and claiming the title of Disney Junior Showcase Champions.
"The Disney Junior Showcase is the most prestigious competitive event for younger players as it brings together the best of the best from outside Florida so the players look forward to the competition,” said Coach Greg Brick. “Playing 5 tough games over a three day period poses challenges in itself for young players but we showed resiliency and consistency in our play on both sides of the ball so to win this event was a great reward."
