The U-12 girls purple academy team continued its dominant form, dating back to last season, capturing the Disney Junior Showcase championship this past weekend. While competing in the top 8v8 bracket against premier sides in the State of Florida, the young Lions won all three of its group stage fixtures, defeating FC Florida 2-1, Space Coast 4-2 and West Florida Flames 3-2.
In the semi-final, the girls produced a narrow 1-0 win over the Chargers in penalty kicks – before a dramatic 2-1 victory over local rivals Florida Rush in the championship contest.
After the match, head coach Robbie Gobble lauded his team for their continual success in the past two seasons.
“This tournament was a really great experience for the girls and a great time for everyone to show the improvement throughout the season,” said Gobble. “This group has come together so well and we’re all extremely proud of their efforts.”
