Things are starting to heat-up in the Land Down Under. After four weeks, Melbourne City FC (home to Orlando Pride players Steph Catley and Laura Alleway) are sitting undefeated at the top of the table. But the season is far from over. With many Pride players on-loan for the NWSL offseason, here are the results of their teams in the past few weeks:
Adelaide United
In Week Three, Adelaide United-- home to Orlando Pride Defender Monica Hickmann Alves, dropped their match against the Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1. Adelaide quickly rebounded after Sydney opened scoring in the 59th minute, but a goal by Nielsen in the 84th minute was enough to give Western Sydney the win. Adelaide went on to play Sydney FC in Week Four. Sydney went ahead after a goal at the end of the first half, and was able to score again in the 85th minute to secure their victory. With one draw and two losses, Adelaide United is still looking for their first victory of the season. Adelaide United will face Canberra United next Saturday, December 3rd at 7:00pm local time.
Canberra United
In Week Three, two Pride players faced off as Canberra United, home of Jasmyne Spencer, faced off against Brisbane Roar, home of Maddy Evans. It was a tight match, with the goal in the 54th minute by Sykes being the difference maker. Canberra walked away with the win. The next week, Canberra faced off against the Newcastle Jets. They scored five goals, including two by Australian National Team star Michelle Heyman. Canberra won the match 5-2, putting them at fourth place in the table with two wins and one loss. Canberra United will face Adelaide United next Saturday, December 3rd at 7:00pm local time.
Brisbane Roar FC
As previously mentioned, Brisbane Roar lost their Week Three match to Canberra United. In Week Four, they faced the Western Sydney Wanderers. They won the match 2-0, with early goals by Polkinghorne and Butt. Brisbane Roar will face off against top ranked Melbourne City FC next Sunday, December 4th at 4:00pm local time.
Melbourne City FC
After four weeks, Melbourne City FC remain undefeated. They didn’t play in Week Three; in Week Four, they faced off against their hometown foes, Melbourne Victory. They won the match 3-0, scoring three goals in less than fifteen minutes. Catley found the back of the net, with a goal in the 74th minute. Melbourne City take on Brisbane Roar next Sunday, December 4th at 4:00pm local time.
