Here are five storylines to watch for Wednesday's Leagues Cup matchup against Atlético de San Luis:
History vs. Los Tuneros
Atlético de San Luis is the only one of Orlando City’s three Phase One opponents the Lions have faced before this year’s edition of Leagues Cup. Wednesday’s matchup will mark the second meeting between the sides across all competitions. The Lions earned the tiebreaker after a 1-1 draw against the Liga MX side in Leagues Cup 2024 on Aug. 4, 2024, converting all five attempts from the spot while Atlético de San Luis converted four.
The Spice is Right
Tyrese Spicer continued his goal-contribution streak in Orlando City’s most recent outing, providing his fourth assist of the campaign across all competitions on Marco Pašalić’s first-half opener against Club León. The 2024 MLS SuperDraft No. 1 overall pick has totaled six goal contributions (three goals, three assists) over the Lions’ last four matches across all competitions. His four assists across all competitions are tied for third on the team, trailing only Braian Ojeda and Justin Ellis, who each have six.
Pašalić Finds the Scoresheet
After representing Croatia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, Designated Player Marco Pašalić made his first start for the Lions since May 15 in Orlando City’s most recent outing against Club León. He marked his return to the starting XI by scoring the opening goal, meeting a diagonal pass from Tyrese Spicer at the top of the box in the 38th minute before burying a left-footed strike into the lower right corner. The goal was his third across all competitions this season and his 18th across all competitions since joining Orlando City ahead of the 2025 MLS campaign.
Bon Retour, Joran
Midfielder Joran Gerbet made his first appearance of the 2026 season in Orlando City’s most recent outing against Club León, entering in the 66th minute after recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the 2025 campaign. Gerbet has made 24 appearances across all competitions for the Lions after featuring in 23 matches, including 14 starts, during his rookie season following his selection with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft. His lone goal contribution for Orlando City came on May 10, 2025, when he assisted one of Martín Ojeda’s three goals in a draw against the New England Revolution.

Monterrey and a 2-1 loss to Club León in its first two matches of Leagues Cup 2026, Orlando City holds a 4W-3L-7D record against Mexican clubs entering its final Phase One contest.
