Here are five storylines to watch for Wednesday's matchup in San Jose:
Grounded Against the Earthquakes
Orlando City holds a 3W-1L-3D all-time record against the San Jose Earthquakes and enters Saturday’s match having won the last two meetings between the clubs. The Lions have not conceded to San Jose since the teams’ 2019 matchup, recording consecutive clean sheets in that span. In the most recent meeting, Orlando City earned a 1-0 win at PayPal Park on May 18, 2024, with Martín Ojeda assisting on the game-winning goal to help secure all three points on the West Coast.
Chasing 300
Fresh off his arrival in the City Beautiful, Antoine Griezmann begins his Orlando City tenure on the verge of a historic milestone. The Frenchman has scored 299 goals in 805 professional appearances across all competitions during a decorated career with Real Sociedad, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner and Atlético de Madrid’s all-time leading scorer would reach 300 professional goals with his first goal for the Lions.
Lions on the World Stage
During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, three Orlando City players represented their countries on soccer’s biggest stage. Goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau started all five matches for Canada, recording two clean sheets and six saves while helping the Canadians earn their first knockout-round victory with a Round of 32 win over South Africa. Forward Marco Pašalić represented Croatia, making three appearances and one start as Croatia finished second in Group L and advanced to the knockout rounds. Midfielder Braian Ojeda represented Paraguay, making one appearance as Los Guaraníes finished third in Group D before defeating Group E winner Germany in the Round of 32 and advancing to the Round of 16.
Back in Purple
Orlando City welcomed back a familiar face during the MLS break, signing forward Daryl Dike as a free agent after five years away from the club. Originally selected by the Lions with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, Dike totaled 19 goals and seven assists in 41 appearances across all competitions during his first stint in purple before joining West Bromwich Albion on Jan. 1, 2022. In England, the striker recorded 11 goals and three assists in 68 appearances for the Baggies.
Allez All-Star
Goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau will represent Orlando City during MLS All-Star Week later this month after being selected to the 2026 MLS All-Star Team and the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge. The Canadian international earned his first MLS All-Star selection after recording 63 saves in 14 appearances for the Lions, ranking fourth in MLS in saves per 90 minutes at 4.78. His selection follows Orlando City's MLS All-Star selections last year of Alex Freeman and Marco Pašalić and marks the Club’s ninth MLS All-Star selection overall.
Milestone Tracker:
-Antoine Griezmann’s first goal for Orlando City will mark his 300th professional goal
