Here are five storylines to watch on Wednesday as the Lions head west to play at St. Louis CITY SC:
Gateway to the West
Orlando City continues its Western Conference tour on Wednesday night with a midweek matchup against St. Louis CITY SC – the Club’s fourth of six interconference games this season and second in as many matches. The Lions have made the most of their Western swing so far, boasting a perfect 3-0-0 record. That run includes a 2-1 road win over LA Galaxy in March, a 1-0 home victory against the Portland Timbers in May at Inter&Co Stadium, and a hard-fought 1-0 result at altitude against the Colorado Rapids on June 14. After facing St. Louis, Orlando will have just two Western Conference opponents remaining on the 2025 schedule – Sporting Kansas City and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Ojeda Stats
Midfielder Martín Ojeda has continued his strong run of form for Orlando City, registering a goal contribution in three straight matches dating back to May 28. The Designated Player is no stranger to extended production streaks – he set a club record during the 2024 season with goal contributions in seven consecutive games from June 28 to July 26. Since the start of that stretch, Ojeda has tallied 12 goals and 13 assists across his last 29 MLS regular-season starts, totaling 25 goal contributions. As of now, the Argentine playmaker is tied for fifth in Major League Soccer in both goals and assists.
Second Time Around
Wednesday’s match will mark just the second all-time meeting between Orlando City and St. Louis CITY SC. The two sides first faced off on August 26, 2023, at Inter&Co Stadium, where the Lions earned a 2-1 victory behind a second-half brace from former Designated Player Facundo Torres, including a stoppage-time penalty. That result gave Orlando a 1-0-0 edge in the series. This week’s fixture will also be the Lions’ first-ever visit to Energizer Park.
Goalless Against Gallese
With a 1-0 shutout win over the Colorado Rapids, goalkeeper Pedro Gallese recorded his eighth clean sheet of the 2025 season, matching the third-highest total of his MLS career with Orlando City. The Peruvian international previously notched 10 shutouts in 2023 and nine in 2022 during regular-season play. Gallese’s eight clean sheets currently lead Major League Soccer, tied with Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Yohei Takaoka and Minnesota United FC’s Dayne St. Clair.
Red, White and Blue Lion
Homegrown defender Alex Freeman has continued his breakout season with Orlando City on the international stage, representing the United States at the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. Freeman started all three group stage matches for the U.S. Men’s National Team, helping secure wins over Trinidad and Tobago (5-0), Saudi Arabia (1-0), and Haiti (2-1). With those results, the U.S. topped Group D and is set to face Costa Rica in the quarterfinals on Sunday, June 29, at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Milestone Tracker:
- Martín Ojeda’s next assist will be his 30th for Orlando City in all competitions, making him the second Lion ever to reach that milestone after Mauricio Pereyra.
- Ojeda ranks tied for seventh in Orlando City history with 21 goals in all competitions, level with Chris Mueller. Ojeda’s next goal will see him claim sole possession of seventh all-time.
- Iván Angulo’s next assist will see him tie Nani for third place in club history with 26.
